I've been thinking of adding a dinosaur-themed role play game to this forum. What are your opinions?

My participation in a Dinotopia-themed RPG was fun for awhile but my inexperience caused issues for the other participant so they quit. Perhaps I could try it again but I'm wondering how a RPG based upon such a wide topic like dinosaurs (as opposed to a fan themed RPG in a known sandbox like Dinotopia) would work out. Does anyone here have enough RPG experience to know how it's supposed to work?

Word-based roleplay is relatively simple. Participants simply take on a character and write a story as that character, together with other players who have their own characters.

Yes that's the general idea. What got me in trouble was my tendency to speak / act for my partner's character as well as my own. I later found out that such godmodding (as this is called) is universally frowned upon. The other unusual thing I did was pepper my RPG posts with crude illustrations, the beginning of my fooling around with MS Paint and later, GIMP. If you're curious about how it all turned out, have a look here. I suppose that a purely prehistoric RPG (as opposed to one in a fantasy world like Dinotopia or Jurassic Park) would feature only dinos and other prehistoric animals as characters, with a wide range of story lines not limited by established canon. RPGs can be fun when done right, but they can become quite time-consuming. Perhaps the only way to find out how well it would work is to go ahead and start one and see how it goes.

So I'll start a game and see how things go. Was thinking of called the game 'Pangaea Ultima' because scientists think that, roughly 200 million years into the future, Pangaea will re-form, though I don't think humans will be around by the time that happens.

I have absolutely no experience with such games. And anything you came up with would have to be mobile friendly considering I use my mobile to get online about 95% of the time.

Tal's roleplay board is up now! And she did a good job with its framework and rules. For now it appears to be rather much of a commitment for me to get involved in, due to real-life responsibilities. This may change in the future, however. ... anything you came up with would have to be mobile friendly considering I use my mobile to get online about 95% of the time. Proboards v.5 mobile is actually rather phone-friendly, although a lot of the formats get squished. If you're using a tablet, the desktop version is a better choice. The upcoming v.6 upgrade promises a better mobile experience.

If you can't play yet, that's fine, but I hope to see you playing the game soon. I'm hoping to start playing later today, just need to finish the NPC list.

"Pangaea Ultima" has officially begun! Before you start playing, please make sure you've read and understood all eleven rules. If there's a rule you don't understand, just send me a pm.
