The Southern Forest, big, bright and buzzing with activity.

"It's beautiful! The Southern Forest is my kind of place. I can't wait for the rest of your friends to arrive. They'll have so much to do here. So tell me, Alestra, what was it like growing up? Was it here or somewhere else? I hatched in the Nesting Grounds but my family soon made their way to Dragonfly Lake. I remember frolicking in the water with my friends while our parents kept watch for carnivores. I learned sculpting from the village elder, a huge Styracosaurus. Dragonfly Lake had my favorite bushes to eat leaves from. And I see some of the same kind here too! Our travels have left me hungry... umm, these leaves sure are good! How about you? What's here for you to eat?

"Yeah, I hatched in the Nesting Grounds, too. Come from a big family, 7 brothers and 6 sisters. I'm close to my siblings, though I don't see them such now we're all grown up, but I'll always remember Mum and Dad trying to teach us how to hunt. Unfortunately, my first hunting lesson didn't go very well, I didn't manage to catch anything and, speaking of food, those Hadrosaurs look tasty."

That sure is a huge family! I'm all alone with no siblings. There were three eggs but only mine hatched.
So Hadrosaurus is your favorite food? There's some crested variety also there, a para -- well, I can't pronounce that one. Can you outrun them or do you need to sneak up on one? Be sure to stay away from their tails! When you get ready I'll have to look the other way -- I never got used to violence and conflict. I'm happy to be a herbivore, because my mom told me that plants can't feel pain and their leaves grow back... but on the other hand, I live in constant fear of being eaten.

"Believe me, being a predator isn't easy. You're lucky, your food's stuck in the ground. The bushes can't pull up their roots and run away when you come along wanting to eat them. They just have to put up with being chewed on. When I want food, I've gotta go out and kill it, first."

Sorry, Alestra. It's not easy for me to see through your eyes and understand what it's like having to hunt to subsist. Yes us herbivores are most often surrounded with food. There's usually something for us to eat, even if not our first choice. On the other hand, it must be tough for you. What's the hungriest you've ever been, and what did you finally catch? ... Look! There's a pterosaur overhead. They are so majestic, so beautiful! Sometimes I wish I could fly like they do. An old legend says that humans used to ride them. Have you ever heard such an absurd myth?

"Personally, I prefer to hunt prey that's around my own size, but if I can bring down a Sauropod, I'd get enough food to last for at least two or three days. As for humans once riding Pterosaurs, I suppose it would be a fun way for puny mammals to get around."

Jariden: "Looks like someone beat you to that Hadrosaurus. [moves in closer] Gasp, I can't stand the sight of blood... Hey, doesn't Hadrosaurus means 'bulky lizard?' So there's plenty for both of you. Perhaps he'd be willing to share."

Alestra: "Usually predators don't like to share a kill unless it's absolutely necessary, but I suppose it won't hurt to ask."

Jariden: "Yes, predators don't often share... [sniffles] Carnivores... You know, us herbivores are happy to share -- yet as you said before, we don't have to work so hard getting something to eat. It makes sense that a predator which struggled to make a kill wouldn't want to share. Yet on the other hand, that other Carnotaurus certainly can't eat a whole Hadrosaurus -- and whatever he leaves, the compys will get. So you might as well ask like you said. I'll go with you."

T-Bone: "I'd suppose you would like to share in my hard-earned prize -- well, I'll have to think a little about that... And who's this Triceratops tagging along? Don't you know good eating when you see it? Or are you afraid of those horns?"

T-Bone: "Jariden? Am I absent-minded or what? So sorry, I had forgotten all about you from our days in the Northern Forest. How many years ago was that?"
Jariden: "T-Bone! What a surprise! Yes it was a long time ago. All I remember is that you were about to eat me when I offered to sculpt your portrait."
